5 Things You Should Know About the New Moon on New Year's Day

 Graphic by Daniel Kmiec

1.     It’s a SuperMoon.
There will be 5 SuperMoons (perigee moons) in 2014. Two will occur in January. Each will bring an extra energetic boost to any magic or intentions.

2.     The New Moon on January 1st carries the Capricorn push to change and cleanse.
The goat and the motto I USE, symbolize Capricorn. Any resolution you make on January 1st will have the full force of the goat butting you up whatever mountain you choose to conquer. So only set intentions you plan to keep. Remember to shed that which no longer serves you, in order to make room for the new.

3.     Planets in Retrograde
The retrograde movements of Venus and Jupiter may hinder workings around love, relationships, luck, and travel.

4.     The Earth Energy of CapricornThe Capricorn New Moon is good for building up to a breakthrough. But first you must face up to your responsibilities (the grounding aspect of earth signs)
  5.  New Moons are New Beginnings
Look within and ask yourself, “What is in my highest good?” Then have faith you can manifest the life you say you want.

Spell Struck Gets a Movie

Technically, it's more of a book trailer than a movie, and no, there wasn't a red carpet or glam stars. But Brilliant Beautiful Daughter and I were in a triumphant mood after we finished our first Moon Maiden Production. With two books published in rapid succession - Spell Struck then Spell Fire, I didn't want
Salem's and Aidan's story to be overlooked. So here it is, told in slightly over a minute.

Four Star Review for Spell Fire

Zili in the Sky

"4 stars in my sky!"

"Ariella Moon does a great job of incorporating the pagan and magical stuff without it seeming unbelievable. When I initially saw the words dragon shaman in the blurb I really didn't expect to like the story, but once I started reading Spell Fire I was quickly engrossed in the plot and the characters."

My thanks to Zili in the Sky for her review! I particularly took note of her comments about to the guys in Spell Fire, Jett and Thor. Hmmm...I think I may have to revisit them at some point! Thor may appear off camera in book 4. I can't see either of them in book 5, but after that...! Thanks Zili for getting me thinking. There is definitely a lot more to Jett and Thor. What do you think? Should I bring them back? Give Jett his own story?

Spell Fire Connects with Readers

Like actors, authors sometimes feel like they live or die by their reviews. The Spell Fire Blog Tour has introduced me to several new reviewers. It has been both an education and rewarding!

It takes time to read a book and craft and a thoughtful review. I so appreciate all who have taken the time to post their feedback on blogs, review sites, Amazon, and Barnes and Noble. You writing has inspired and enlightened me! I look forward (with some trepidation) to the reviews to come.

Here are the latest tour reviews:

"This story took risks... The risk in showing such private wounds which haunt so many teens was risky. Mental illness has a stigma attached to it and having such a character was risky. I fell in love with her the first time she washed her hands, and the 100th. Because, like may young adult books, it was written from our Ainslie’s point of view it was like peaking into someones diary, almost. I am all smushy inside I liked this book so much! Oh and of course young love, what story would be complete without it?"
Cabin Goddess gave Spell Fire a 9 out of 10

"I would recommend this book to just about anyone."

Teach Me Under the Mistletoe ~ New Holiday Release

Bestselling author Kay Springsteen fuels the holiday spirit with her new release, Teach Me Under the Mistletoe.

TAGLINE:  He was only supposed to teach her how to kiss.

BLURB:
According to Caroline "Kitty" Tyndall's friends, a young lady who's gone two seasons in London with nary a nibble from a prospective suitor is well on the way to spinsterhood. But what's a girl to do when she's never been kissed, and the worldly man she wants regards her as a child?
Hugh McCollum spends his days as a stable hand staying out of trouble and saving for his planned emigration to America. When Lady Caroline asks him to teach her how to kiss so the man she's set her cap for will find her more sophisticated, he knows he should run in the other direction. But when a pretty young woman falls into his arms and begs for his help, what's a red-blooded man to do but oblige?
If learning to kiss leads Kitty to love, will the man of her dreams be the man of her heart?

EXCERPT:
“I’m not convinced merely learning how to kiss will achieve yer goal.” Hugh stepped closer. “I mean, have ye considered how ye’ll get his attention so he does kiss ye?”
She tilted her head as she turned to regard him. An impish smile widened her lips. “I plan to catch him under the kissing bough at the winter ball in two weeks. And I want to give him a kiss he’ll remember.”
Hugh spread his hands, confused as to what exactly she was asking of him. “I’m certain any man would remember sharing a kiss with you under the mistletoe.” He definitely would were they to meet under such circumstances. He couldn’t get that momentary brush of their lips the previous day out of his mind.
“Many women will attend my parents’ ball.” She frowned. “And he prefers female companionship from ladies who are… well closer to his age.”
“Closer to his age?” Hugh stared, striving to form a picture of the man. “How old is he?”
“Lady Penelope thinks he’s not yet had his thirtieth birthday.” A knowing smile curved Lady Caroline’s pink lips. “He’s very dashing, and he’s traveled all over the world. I heard he’s been to America.”
The squeezing in Hugh’s middle returned. “Are there no young men of yer own age?”
An impatient sigh left her lips. “Have you not heard a word I’ve told you? They’re boys. Very immature. I want — I want a man.”
Hugh stared across the reflecting pond. He should decline, return to the stable. Just let his feet carry him back along the path. What did he know of the type of man she sought? Did she not realize he was about as far removed from being a gentleman of the peerage as a wallowing pig was from a horse?

This was my toughest author interview so far - all the questions were about my high school years. Total flashback to drama club, the school newspaper, and how the school mascot got drenched in paint every home football game.

Nowhere to Go For Christmas

Inspirational Author Heather Gray

will get you in the mood for Christmas

with her heartwarming story,

Nowhere for Christmas

Back Cover Blurb:
Anything can happen on the road to Nowhere…
A journalist and single mother, Avery is used to being in control, though she tries to remind herself to let God take lead in her life. Eli, her teenage son, is happy as long as he has his music, plenty of food, and the occasional adult on which to practice his rapier wit.  Gavin, a virtual stranger, is a photojournalist who mysteriously disappeared from the scene a few years ago.
The trio ends up together for a Christmas road trip to the small town of Nowhere.  An eight hour drive in a rental car turns into two days of misadventure and calamity as bad luck stalks them.  They get a flat tire, the bumper falls off, the car overheats – and that's only the beginning! Along the way they meet some interesting people – from a bait shop owner who moonlights as a mechanic to a chatty preacher's wife and a highway patrolman whose wife and mother can't agree on the best way to remove a skunk's stink.
Hungry, cold, and tired, the three finally arrive in Nowhere only to discover the town is nothing like they expected. Reaching their destination, it turns out, doesn't necessarily mean the journey has ended.

Excerpt:
"I'm going to have to go get the other big one out of the attic," she said with a sigh, hoping her son would volunteer to climb up in there and retrieve it for her.
Instead, he nodded and asked, "You want me to pull the ladder down for you?" She grinned to herself as she nodded. They had a regular battle about the attic. Neither of them liked going up there. Since he'd gone up to retrieve all the Christmas decorations earlier in the month, she'd let him have the victory this time.
After Avery scaled the creaky ladder up into the attic, she scanned the web-dusted contents, quickly locating the suitcase she needed. It was older and more faded than the green one, and it had a rust-and-mustard-colored seventies floral pattern on it. At least no one will try to steal it.
As she dragged the suitcase with its one broken wheel across the attic floor, a cloud of who-knew-what gently puffed up into the air around her. Then she got a mouthful of it and started coughing, which led to more grime and dust billowing into the air. That, of course, led to more coughing.
Avery lost her balance and started to fall out of the attic opening, but the suitcase blocked her way enough to pause her descent, giving her time to reach out and grab the back of an old chair that had been in the attic longer than they'd lived in the house. The suitcase wasn't so lucky. It fell zipper-over-wheel down the attic ladder and landed with a loud thud on the carpeted floor below.
By the time Avery pulled herself back to her feet and made her way down the ladder, she expected to find Eli standing there wondering where his dinner was. Alas, her teen was blissfully unaware of her near-death-by-attic experience. He was in his room listening to his MP3 player. It's for the best. I wouldn't want him to pull a muscle laughing at me.

Author Bio:
Aside from her long-standing love affair with coffee, Heather’s greatest joys in life are her relationship with her Savior, her family, and writing.  Years ago, she decided it would be better to laugh than yell.  Heather carries that theme over into her writing where she strives to create characters that experience both the highs and lows of life and, through it all, find a way to love God, embrace each day, and laugh out loud right along with her.
